Studying the Quark-Gluon Plasma with angular correlations |

The Universe was made up of the so-called Quark-Gluon Plasma in the first microseconds after the Big Bang. This hot and dense matter can be studied today in heavy-ion accelerators, such as the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Quark-antiquark pairs are produced in these collisions, which can be used as penetrating probes to study the properties of the created medium. These (anti)quarks reach our detectors as collimated sprays of particles, called jets. In the proposed topic, the interested student will study the interaction of these jets with the Quark-Gluon Plasma with two-particle angular correlations measurements. The measurements will be done using Monte Carlo event generators (e.g. PYTHIA, AMPT, JETSCAPE) and on Pb-Pb collision data taken by the ALICE experiment. |
