A téma rövid leírása: Present day cosmological N-body simulations have periodic boundary conditions for convenience. The problem with this is two-fold: 1) this is not a realistic model of the universe (although the effects are expected to be small) 2) it is inefficient: the number of k-modes grows as k^2 \delta k in a bin, which means that low k modes are undersampled but a huge number of high k modes are followed by the simulation. The topic of the dissertation would be to devise a simulation (either modifying and exisiting one, or prototyping one in a higher level language) which would overcome this problems, and compare the results with those of traditional N-body simulations.
Szükséges előismeretek: This dissertation would require substantial programming experience. Physics/Astronomy or Computer Science students are welcome.
